Say 'I Do' to Brooklyn Style!
Featuring a Brooklyn Bride & our splurge-worthy picks from this week

Our featured bride Martha
Give us the scoop on your wedding and overall vision!
Our wedding was at Arlo Williamsburg in Brooklyn NYC on September 28th. We really wanted everything to feel fun, vibrant, a little wacky, and really authentic to us.
I’m not super traditional so we wanted some things to feel a little different and unique, but we still wanted to have a big wedding and honor many of the traditions that we felt would make us feel really “in our feelings” with our family and friends.
We were led by our incredible planner Veronica Joy Events, and our mood board was all about bright colors - hot pink fuchsia, powder blue, lime green, purple mixed with black and white.
I said I wanted everything to feel like it was in motion, like all the pieces were moving and grooving on the dancefloor. While fun and a little wacky we also wanted it to feel chic, city-like, and elegant!

Tell us about your wedding looks - what made you excited about each piece?
Knowing my ceremony dress was more simple/sleek/elegant, I wanted to go more fun and funky with my other looks!
My welcome party dress was my favorite look of the wedding and probably the best thing I’ve ever worn! It was a vintage 2000s Alexander McQueen that I got at a vintage occasion wear store in NYC, Happy Isles. The dress was an investment but just felt so special and exactly the vibe I wanted - a total nod to bridal elements like the satin ribbon, corset top and dainty florals but also so funky and fun. It felt so special!
My ceremony dress was the Suzanne Neville Haley dress, which I got it at Wedding Atelier in NYC. I liked the square neckline, relaxed A-line skirt, and organza - but my favorite part was the belt.
For the dress, I knew I was either going to go very funky modern, or something very simple and sleek, and I went with the latter.
For later into the night and dancing, I changed into the Loren Bubble Dress from Staud. I changed into this way earlier than I thought I would for comfort's sake and because it was so fun, I was so excited to put it on.

How did you style your looks? Any specific accessories or styles or overall vision that contributed?
For my welcome party, I wore a pearl bracelet borrowed from my late grandmother. For shoes, I was looking for something fun, but that wouldn’t take away from the dress, so I went with the Caitlyn blue heel from Badgley Mischka.
With my wedding dress, I was so lucky to work with our friend Ava at Always on Holiday for my custom jewelry! I knew I wanted to do something sentimental with my moms wedding dress, so we wound up taking beads from her dress and making them into a choker and bracelet that I wore on my wedding day.
It felt so special to remake something modern with the beads. I also knew I wanted to wear a headband because a veil didn’t feel authentic to me, but I wanted something on my hair. I ended up wearing the Kate white silk headband from Jennifer Behr.

How was your shopping experience? Did you know what you wanted going into it?
I didn’t know! I was very open and tried on lots of different designers, necklines, and styles. I was debating between some fun/funky/wacky dresses and the dress I ended up with, which was very simple and chic.
It was pretty hard deciding on a dress in the end. I went back to see my favorites a second time, and trusted my gut on which I felt most comfortable in that I kept coming back to. I had a blast shopping for my other looks - it felt less stressful!
Any advice for brides looking for their looks?
Have fun! Pick things that feel fun and like you that make you smile or giggle. It’s OK to have a little bit of a wandering eye after you’ve made your choices. Think about comfort but also know it’s ok to change into your more comfy outfit as soon as you want!
